ALYSSA H. CHASE | ACTOR-SINGER

Alyssa H. Chase (@ce)

Hello! I am an actor/singer living in Manhattan. Originally from Southeastern Massachusetts, I harbor an intense love of the ocean, coffee syrup and Harley-Davidsons.

My work as a performer began in the theatre, but soon expanded to include film, television, and commercials. I'm most inspired by modern, character-driven theatre, witty musicals (translation: small and weird) & dramatic television.

I also love singing jazz and have performed in a spectrum of settings, from full swing orchestras to my own quartet. As an impressionist, I love singing "all the songs they shouldn't," because I like things that are ridiculous and kinda wrong.  Some favorites include Cher (in Wicked), Julie Andrews (in RENT- I know, you really wanna see this, right?)  Tina Turner, Patti Lupone and Bernadette Peters.

I hold a B.A. in Theatre and another B.A. in English Language and Literature, both from Smith College. During my time at Smith, I also studied abroad at Royal Holloway-University of London, and I interned with New York Stage and Film Company as a production and acting apprentice. After undergrad, I moved to NYC where I trained at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy earning a conservatory certificate in Music Theatre.

In my parallel career, I enjoy being an educator for workplace communications, leadership, and mindfulness. I hold an M.A. in Adult Learning and Leadership from Teachers College-Columbia University and am a graduate of UC Berkeley's Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program. Learn more HERE

PRESS

For Charles Ludlam's The Artificial Jungle:

...enjoy a gourmand’s taste for riotous, yet disciplined, scenery-chewing. Ms. Chase comes closest with a ripe Noo Yawk accent that drips over her lines like hot fudge on a sundae.
– Elizabeth Vincentelli, NY Times

Alyssa H. Chase plays a trashy venus flytrap of an unfaithful wife—as though Little Shop of Horrors's Audrey had the soul of Audrey II.

– Adam Feldman, TimeOutNY

Chase flicks her eyes like Barbara Stanwyck at some unseen camera, her heavily accented diction a malevolent shade of Ellen Greene...We howl with laughter when Zach and Roxanne cruise each other like they're in a pet shop-themed bathhouse, but the scene only works because both actors play it completely seriously.
– Zachary Stewart, TheaterMania
Picture

"As the desperate housewife with a lust for an escape from the mundane, Alyssa H. Chase was comedy noir gold." – Michael Block, Theater in the Now

For David Mamet's Boston Marriage:

Anna, written to be over-the-top, is played with gusto by Alyssa H. Chase... She can snap words into existence and drop them to the floor without batting an eyelash. She gives Anna a hauteur that chills the blood of a listener. Chase creates a creature in the body of a girl and animates that creature with gestures that would stop a train on its tracks. It is quite a performance.
– J. Peter Bergman, The Berkshire Edge

"Chase's delivery, her voice and cadence, are eerily reminiscent of Christine Baranski. Her droll snarkiness suited the role, and she has a dignified presence."- Roseann Cane, Berkshire on Stage

For Tennessee Williams' Period of Adjustment:

...a voice of reason appears when Ralph's wife, Dorothea, sensitively portrayed by Alyssa Chase, arrives contrite and forgiving.
– Debbie Forman, Cape Cod Times
Picture

"...Alyssa Chase masterfully translates Williams’ realistically rendered character."– Bethany Gibbons, The Barnstable Patriot

FOR Mark Camoletti's DON'T DRESS FOR DINNER:

The laughs are so loud and long here..[Chase and Silver] manipulate the minutes and the audience and keep the flow and the build going.

– J. Peter Bergman, Berkshire Bright Focus

"[Chase] can time laughs, kill with comic reactions, and at the same time be the most mundane suburbanite imaginable."– J. Peter Bergman, Berkshire Bright Focus

for Ken Ludwig's MOON OVER BUFFALO:

...the excellent Alyssa H. Chase...totally gets the farce thing in addition to looking lovely.
